X-Men: Apocalypse - 8 Ways The New Trailer Killed Your Anticipation
6. There's Too Much Focus On Mystique (And She Seems Too Much Like Katniss)
Given that Jennifer Lawrence is pretty much the biggest actress on the planet right now, you can understand why she's been positioned front and centre in X-Men: Apocalypse. When Lawrence first joined the X-Men franchise, after all, she wasn't quite as big a deal. Now, with an Oscar under her belt and more fame than you shake a dozen "annoyingly relatable" anecdotes at, the series has been forced to expand her role. Still, watching the latest trailer, you might be mistaken for a second in thinking that you're watching a movie in The Hunger Games canon. Not only does it feel as though Lawrence is the main character in Apocalypse, given how much she's featured in the trailer, but she appears to be heavily channelling Katniss Everdeen. It doesn't feel right, though: Lawrence suddenly feels like a jarring addition to the X-Men - too big a star for the part she plays. It's not really her fault, but when Mystique - of all characters - is the one providing the trailer's inspirational voiceover ("You're not students anymore... you're X-Men"), you have to wonder where the bad-ass anti-hero has gone.
