10 Absurdly Hard Games You Never Beat

8. MDK2

You know a video game is unforgiving when you can't beat it despite having infinite lives and a fair amount of checkpoints.

Such is the case with MDK2. In hindsight, BioWare's underrated title should've gotten more love, since it has inventive level design, hilarious absurdist humour, and sharp graphics that still look great today.

As a whole, the only criticism MDK2 suffers is how hard it is. Rather than ramping up the difficulty gradually, players are dumped into insta-kill scenarios that are rarely telegraphed. Whether it's the bosses, puzzles, or the platforming, every aspect of the gameplay seems to have been designed by a sadist. Yes, there are checkpoints, but that doesn't make the levels easy since they're unreasonably long.

Even though it's refreshing how you can play as three heroes with radically different play-styles, this decision adds to the challenge. You get so used to playing as one individual, it's jarring when you switch to another since you need time to adjust to their abilities and skill-set. Sadly, you don't get the chance, since a myriad of enemies, traps, and death-machines are constantly thrown at you.
