A quick way to make an Aliens fan angry is to bring up the deaths of Hicks and Newt in Alien 3, since killing two major characters off-screen is rarely a popular decision. Hicks death was pretty final too since his head was crushed by a pole and he was later cremated.

The movie had a lot of fans in developer Gearbox Software, who decided to make Colonial Marines a direct follow-up to the events of Aliens. This required a leap of logic in several areas since the planet was nuked at the end.
