10 Actors Who Reprised Iconic Roles For Video Games
2. Marlon Brando - The Godfather
EA went all out with their attempt to turn The Godfather into a game; they hired Marlon Brando, James Caan and Robert Duvall to reprise their roles, they consulted with Francis Ford Coppola to capture the tone of the franchise and even got permission to reuse the iconic score.
Unfortunately by the time they came to record Brando he was already in poor health and needed an oxygen tank to breathe properly. The sound of the tank hindered the recording of his lines, and his weak speech was also an issue. He died shortly after his recording session, and it was decided most of his recordings were unusable so a sound-alike was hired instead.
They still managed to fit a small sample of his recording into the game, for the moment after Vito is shot and placed in the hospital. It's poignant hearing Brando’s voice in this scene since it would be his final acting performance, but it’s also tough to make out his dialogue so the decision to record with another actor is understandable.
