The Mortal Kombat franchise started way back in 1992, and pretty quickly established itself as an overly brutal fighting game for players with an unquenchable thirst for pixellated blood effects.

Naturally, the game's success and unique brand of ultra-violence meant that it wasn't long before Hollywood secured rights to adapt Mortal Kombat into a movie.

This became 1995's Mortal Kombat, starring Christopher Lambert as Raiden, Bridgette Wilson as Sonya Blade, and Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage.

The movie may have been a long way from a critical darling, but it holds a special place in the hearts of die-hard fans of the franchise, and spawned a number of feature-length sequels.

November 2020 saw the release of the "Klassic MK Movie" skin pack for 2019's Mortal Kombat 11, which saw Lambert, Wilson and Ashby reprise their roles for character skins boasting their likenesses and costumes from the movie.

This entry is an odd one, as the characters are iconic due to their role in the game franchise, but the actors who played the roles in the movie adaptation only featured in the video games decades after they featured in the movie of the same name.

Confusing, right?
