10 Amazing Video Game Missions That Got Cut
7. Finding Cave Johnson - Portal 2
The great thing about Portal 2 is that it expands on the lore of the original game. The player gets to explore the forgotten backends of the Aperture Science facility and learn of its mysterious and hilariously savage founder, Cave Johsnon.
The only problem is that you never get to learn what exactly happened to Cave. His fate is left unclear, and it's largely due to the fact that Valve cut out a chapter dedicated to solving this exact mystery.
A collection of hidden files in the Portal 2 folders reveals that the game was originally going to feature an entire location dedicated to discovering Cave's ultimate fate. In the location, the player was going to encounter a special companion cube plugged into an electric socket. The cube would turn out to be Cave Johson, who had his consciousness transferred to a machine in order to save himself from his progressing disease.
After the revelation, he would ask you to end his miserable existence, and then you could use his cube-shaped body to escape from a pit.
The scene was actually recreated by a fan a year ago, so if you're curious to see what euthanizing a cube looks like, give it a look.
