One of Dragon Age: Origins' more interesting features is the ability to choose the origin story of your character. Unlike in later Dragon Age games or other similar titles, the choice doesn't just give your character a backstory; it also lets you play it and determine how it shapes the Warden.

Now, although the dwarf and elf origin stories come with distinct variants and plenty of choices that impact the main storyline, the human options leave much to be desired. You may only choose to play as a human noble or mage, and only one of these backstories comes with branching paths.

This was not the original intention of the creators. In the early development of Dragon Age, human Wardens were supposed to have two more distinct origin stories: one for a human commoner and one for a human barbarian.

In the first one, the Warden was a young farmer whose village was razed by Darkspawn. In the second, they were an Avvar barbarian living in the mountains who had to survive a surprise attack from a rival tribe.

The two origins would've added much-needed variety to the human backstories, but unfortunately, they were cut out due to technical difficulties.

Curse you, technical difficulties!
