10 Amazing Video Game Villains Hiding In Terrible Games

8. The Infection - Amy

Amy is a survival horror game, and not a very good one at that. The game sees players take control of a woman named Lana as she attempts to guide an 8-year-old autistic girl through a disease-ridden village infested with zombies. And that's about it as far as storyline goes, with players swapping between evading zombies and the mysterious Phoenix Foundation.

Upon release, Amy was almost universally panned by fans and critics alike. The camerawork is abysmal, there were countless glitches present, and the repetitive gameplay was made even more annoying by how sporadic the checkpoints were.

However, there was one mechanic developers VectorCell managed to nail before all was said and done.

Without medicine, Lana is infected by the same virus that has zombified the game's enemies, and will increasingly 'turn' the longer things play out. In order to remedy this, players must keep Lana as close as possible to Amy, whose "psychic powers" (...yup) keep her looking reasonably human.

We say 'human' mainly because, with graphics like these, no one looks particularly pleasant.

Nevertheless, it's an interesting enough mechanic and seeing the effects of the infection at its end point with the game's enemies does a solid job in ramping up the stakes.
