10 Amazing Video Games That Didn't Deserve To Flop

9. Deathloop

Midnight Suns
Arkane Studios

Deathloop seemed like a surefire hit.

Aggressively pushed as a console exclusive by Sony (to the point where it got shown so much some players actually got sick of it being marketed so hard) and releasing to a whole bunch of 10/10 scores promising a GOTY contender, it felt like Arkane's latest was guaranteed to find an audience.

The title itself had as much style as substance as well, with a timeloop framing that had you experimenting with a wealth of weapons and powers in order to coordinate the assassination of a bunch of targets all before the day is up.

However, despite its quality the inventive first-person shooter struggled out the gate. Its rave reviews ultimately meant little, as launch day arrived with many people asking the question: is Deathloop overrated?

As this discourse started to dominate in online spaces, it meant that players were skeptical, and Deathloop ended up with the lowest sales in the developer's history. Now, part of that is of course down to it being a PS5 console exclusive, but even with that in mind it's clear the game underperformed for such a critical darling.
