10 Amazing Video Games That Didn't Deserve To Flop
8. The Evil Within 2
The Evil Within 2 is one of the best survival horror games of its generation.
Everyone talks up Resident Evil 2 and the recent Dead Space remake, but Bethesda's sequel absolutely deserves to be remembered for its genre innovations, managing to blend scripted horror set-pieces with a more player-driven open world design.
Leagues above its admittedly shaky original, The Evil Within 2's tight shooting and creative narrative delivered some of the genre's most memorable moments, and yet didn't reap the same rewards that the other aforementioned horror games did.
Why? It's not entirely clear. Perhaps it was the tepid reaction to the original that led many to assume a sequel would just be more of the same. Maybe it was a lack of marketing from Bethesda (a publisher notorious at the time for letting great games come and go unannounced). Or maybe it was simply released a few years too soon, before classic survival horror experiences were repopularised.
Whatever the reason, it's a damn shame it sold a mere quarter of the original, and didn't make enough money to guarantee a sequel.
