10 AMAZING Video Games That Didn't Get Sequels

7. God Hand

Capcom

God Hand was first released in 2006 on PlayStation 2; the game was developed by Clover Studio - a now defunct subsidiary studio set up by Capcom, with the express purpose of developing new IP’s - God Hand received a lukewarm critical reception, but has since garnered something of a cult following.

Our hero, Gene, loses an arm in a fight and comes into possession of the God Hand - one of the arms of a legendary martial-artist - and is granted incredible powers. In the ensuing adventure: Gene battles a demon named Elvis, a team that bears a strong resemblance to the Power Rangers, and wrestles a gorilla.

It’s fair to say God Hand doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The gameplay is best described as a 3D update of side-scrolling brawlers from the 16bit era (Streets of Rage, Double Dragon) and feels wholly different to its closest contemporaries, Devil May Cry and God of War.

Players can customise Gene’s move-list, choosing from hundreds of varied attacks. God Hand also featured an adaptive difficulty system which changed during play based on your performance.

Co-founder of PlatinumGames, Hideki Kamiya, has recently expressed interest in developing a God Hand sequel and with their pedigree for superlative action games, it would surely be well received by fans of the original.
