Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is a first-person video game in which players explore the fictional town of Yaughton in Shropshire, England.

It's hard to capture EGttR's charm in words, because so much of it comes from its beauty, its soundtrack, and the mingling of the two that creates an atmosphere at once eerily pleasant and out-and-out creepy.

Exploring all of Yaughton's back roads and woodland lanes feels inherently voyeuristic, even if there's no-one physically left to spy on, but playing through EGttR is the sort of cinematic journey that's hard to walk away from.

It's possible to play through the game in an hour or two, but so much detail has been poured into every corner of Yaughton that it feels criminal not to fully explore every facet of the game's story and back-story.

Withing the apocalyptic sci-fi story, there's a lot of human drama that plays out more like a soap opera, except we never see anyone's face. Instead, all we see is floating wisps of light and the voices of the long dead, playing out their final days on a loop for anyone who happens to pass by.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is haunting in all the best ways, and certainly isn't a bad way to spend an afternoon.
