10 Amazing Video Games With INCREDIBLY Short Development Times

5. The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask - One Year

GTA vice city
Nintendo

How does a company follow up Ocarina of Time, a game that’s design and detail find it often entering lists of best games ever made? Well, Nintendo’s answer was to release another game that often enters lists of best games ever made, and this time make it in a year.

Major’s Mask took everything great about Ocarina of time and decided to add in a lot more. With great graphics, level design, and dark undertones this is truly a worthy sequel to the first game. They added many new features. One of these is a selection of different masks that Link can use to transform into varying creatures to solve puzzles. Of course there's the dreaded moon, with that horrific smile that comes forever closer over the course of three in-game days (54 Minutes).

Sure, you can turn back time, but that moon does make you feel uneasy.

The development team managed to create this fantastic game in a year with a smaller team than with Ocarina of Time. They, of course, managed to do this by reusing the game engine and graphics from the previous game.

However, Majora’s Masks shows that you can reuse assets while also creating a new game, if the story and art direction are of high quality. With how much popularity and re-releases this game has, there’s no reason not to see what the team accomplished.
