The Warcraft series of games is probably better known now for the MMORPG World of Warcraft. There was a time before this, though, when it was known for being a brilliant fantasy RTS. The influence of this game series has spread so far into gaming culture. With multiplayer modes of Warcraft 3 giving rise to MOBA franchises such as Dota 2 and League of Legends.

Like most game series this one had humble beginnings. The game Warcraft: Ocs and Humans was released in 1994 by a little-known company called Blizzard. After an excellent response Blizzard of, course wanted a sequel and began work on Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness in February 1995, and released the game an amazing 11 months later, it was quite a race but they made the game they wanted and made it well.

If you were to go back to the game now after modern RTS games you may not understand the impact it had at the time, While Warcraft 1 was what started the series and Warcraft 3 perfected the formula, we have Warcraft 2 to thank for a great deal.

This game was the first that contained many tropes of the later series and allowed blizzard to develop their skill and humour. Without Warcraft 2, Blizzard would never have grown as they did, and we would have missed out on so many classic games.
