After nearly a decade of ruling the market, Lara Croft was usurped by Nathan Drake and his merry band of adventurers. Not one to be outdone, Lara returned with a vengeance in 2013 and reminded us all why she was so popular in the first place.

A far cry from the original, this gritty reboot drops Lara on a dangerous island with only her wits, and a few choice weapons, to survive. It borrows a few elements from the Uncharted series but, considering it was the original pioneer of this type of gameplay, it can be forgiven and it feels like more of an homage rather than being entirely derivative.

Perhaps the best aspect of this reboot is the progression of abilities as you make your way through the game. You may find yourself wanting to scale a cliff edge as a shiny collectable glints at you invitingly, but do not have the means to do so. Fear not, as these abilities unlock as you progress, encouraging you to explore the entire island as you develop your equipment and abilities.

The collectables themselves fill in the blanks surrounding the events on the mysterious island meaning there is a genuine reason to search them out offering plenty of replay value for the completionists amongst you.
