10 Amazing Western Movie Homages In Red Dead Redemption 2

7. Leviticus Cornwall Pays Homage To There Will Be Blood

Assassination Of Jesse James Red Dead Redemption 2
Paramount Vantage

Despite their devotion to their cause, the fate of the Van Der Linde Gang seemed to be sealed when wealthy oilman Leviticus Cornwall started funding the Pinkertons and their pursuit of all outlaws.

Cornwall was both a symbol of the inevitable progress and civilisation of America as well as the death of the Wild West as it once was. But after witnessing Cornwall's pride in his business and his achievements, it would not be surprising if players and film fans saw similarities to Daniel Plainview from There Will Be Blood.

Like Cornwall, Plainview has command over a vast amount of wealth and power that he acquired over years of establishing his own oil companies. Plainview demonstrates multiple times that he is willing to do whatever it takes to maintain and protect his wealth, and like Cornwall, does not care about anything other than results.

Not only does Cornwall help the game pay homage to one of Daniel Day-Lewis’ greatest performances, it also gives the game the perfect antagonist for Dutch: an unscrupulous businessman who has not only conformed to the changes in society, but is an accomplice in its relentless pursuit of money and power.
