Despite taking place in a vast open world, Fallout 3 had a surprisingly tight narrative. Much of the game is spent trying to find your father, who is in turn trying to protect Project Purity, an attempt at purifying the irradiated water of the Capital Wasteland. However, due to the actions of Colonel Autumn, the player character is forced to watch helplessly as their father dies to radiation poisoning. Autumn is the chief antagonist of Fallout 3, and there's every motivation to want him dead. After an entire game's worth of build up, the player is finally put in a room with Colonel Autumn. Then with a tap of the button, they can go into the V.A.T.S. targeting system and blow the Colonel's head off within moments. It's even possible to just persuade him he's being a nasty man and that what he's doing is wrong.
