Ever since the seminal Duck Hunt, light-gun cabinets have been a popular force in all arcade halls. It wasn't until 1997 though that the genre was launched much further into the stratosphere than those ducks could ever reach, with Namco's incredible Time Crisis II.
While the first Time Crisis was a decent enough entry, the sequel did something the original didn't do - it introduced co-operative play.
Yes, you and a friend could play side-by-side shooting your way through swathes of enemies and strategically helping each other out by providing covering fire as you did. It was such a simple innovation in the series and alongside the fast and frenetic shooting gameplay, it helped to make Time Crisis II the definitive light-gun title.
Playing together with a pal, you could even believe you two were in some kind of buddy-cop movie. You were Riggs and Murtaugh. You were Tango and Cash. Hell, you were even Turner and Hooch. Although, we'd advise against playing Time Crisis II with an actual lovable Mastiff dog. His covering technique is properly ruff.
