10 Arcade Video Games To Make You Feel Like A Kid Again

3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The Simpsons perhaps didn't naturally align itself to the fighting genre, but here we find a franchise that fitted it like a glove. Before Konami sent the residents of Springfield to the streets with weapons, they made a fighting game out of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and it was positively a classic of the genre.

From the moment you hear the opening bars of THAT theme tune (still the second greatest cartoon theme tune ever, only fractionally behind Sharky and George), you were ready to jump into this arcade incarnation of our heroes in a half-shell.

Once you started playing, you realised just how much fun playing a TMNT beat 'em up could be. It was basically all your turtle-shaped dream come true.

Konami knew a winning formula when they saw one and carried on in this style of four-player arcade fighting fun with X-Men, Bucky O'Hare and the excellent TMNT sequel, Turtles in Time.

Other comic-book licenses like The Avengers, Spider-Man and The Punisher also received similar treatment from other developers. It was certainly a boom time for four-player arcade cabinets, as well as all our childhood fantasies.
