10 Astonishing Video Game Facts That Will Blow Your Mind

2. The Multiplayer Mode In GoldenEye Was A Complete Afterthought & Was Created In Less Than A Month

goldeneye-multiplayer If you had friends, an N64 and a copy of GoldenEye as a kid, some of your fondest memories are more than likely linked to that of the game's multiplayer mode, which was just about as much fun as it was possible to have at that point in time. The multiplayer mode was revolutionary for its era, and set many of the standards that we still hold in high regard now when it comes to what makes a good first-person shooter. Somewhat surprisingly, though, GoldenEye's multiplayer mode was created as an afterthought to the main game, and as something of an experimentation. The guys who designed it didn't even ask their superiors if it was okay to create the thing, so they built it secretly and hoped for the best. Thankfully this mode made it into the final version, despite the fact that it took the programmers less than a month. It's safe to say that this little experiment changed video games forever, though, so the risk paid off immensely.
