10 Awesome 2019 Video Games You Can Beat In One Sitting
9. After Party
On its surface, After Party's premise smacks of a terrible bro/college comedy of the late 90s.
Players take control of best friends Lola and Milo, who find themselves in hell. The only ticket out is to beat the Devil at a drinking game. Every instinct tells you that this will be a vapid, toilet-humour laden affair. Probably starring Jason Biggs.
What we are actually met with is an incredibly sincere, thought-provoking and funny narrative-driven experience. Night School Studio, the brains behind 2016s Oxenfree, has crafted a gorgeous neon-drenched hell. Each area is divided into different bars and clubs for Lola and Milo to explore, each full of unique demons who have their own lives (per se).
After Party's core gameplay is focused around its brilliant writing, punctuated by excellent voice performances that help bring levity to the words on the screen. This is made even more impressive by the deeply complicated morality system, that never punishes you for your decisions. It makes you live with them, no matter the consequences.
After Party is a smart, beautiful and deeply enjoyable experience perfectly suited for those looking to fill that Telltale-sized hole in their hearts.
