10 Awesome 2019 Video Games You Can Beat In One Sitting
8. A Plague Tale: Innocence
Not all shorter, indie experiences have to be whimsical and highly stylised. Some can be truly horrifying, putting players into positions that leave them uncomfortable and helpless. A Plague Tale Innocence is one of those games.
Players take control of Amicia, an orphaned girl of Noble heritage who has to help protect younger brother Hugo from the horrors of 14th Century Europe. Those horrors range from plague-riddled rat hoards to murderous bandits.
Though Amelia has some combat ability, encounters are framed as a last resort tactic that will almost certainly get you killed. Instead, finding the best way through a chapter, using puzzles and stealth, is the most effective means of survival.
The game mixes its environment fantastically, shifting from eerie open fields to claustrophobic tunnels throughout its 10 hours run time. Though the puzzles do not innovate dramatically in style, the backdrop and atmosphere surrounding the whole game swamp the action with anxiety.
Couple this with truly impressive visuals and vocal performances, that would be mistaken for any AAA product, and soon A Plague Tale Innocence becomes an excellent use of your limited time.
