At its best, the Fable series was something truly special, creating an immersive RPG world that tried and succeeded in being different - marriage, families, jobs, and publicly crapping your pants were just some of the things that added up to a uniquely rich experience of the sort we've rarely seen since.

Fable Legends for the Xbox One once again aimed to shake things up, this time by way of a co-op-focused RPG in which a party of four heroes must venture across a vibrant world in search of a mysterious artefact. The unique hook however, was that each quest could be carried out with up to three human players, while a 'villain' - also controlled by a person - would set up enemies, traps and challenges to try and stop them from completing it.

It was a strange but intriguing premise, and footage of the game showed it to retain that charming fairy-tale tone that the series was renowned for. Earlier this year however, Microsoft shut down its developer Lionhead Studios as part of what appears to be a major restructuring of the company's priorities, and Fable Legends was no more.
