7. Earthbound 64
Why We Want To Play It:Earthbound on the SNES defines nostalgia for many of us. A turn-based RPG with spectacular gameplay, an incredible soundtrack, and an original story for the ages. Aside from that, who wouldnt want a sequel to an SNES game in which the original cartridge is being auctioned on eBay for as much as $250! And the recent announcement that Earthbound is coming to the Wii U virtual console will surely stir the pot for dedicated fans.
Why We Never Will: The days of the SNES can be considered one of the golden eras of turn based RPG; and Earthbound had something to do with that. While the game received positive reviews, it also fell to the same fate of low sales so many great games have before it. Earthbound 64 went into development for the Nintendo 64 Disc Drive, a console add-on which never came to fruition. No N46DD, no Earthbound 64. The real double edged sword was that Earthbound 64 was shaping up to be a revolutionary game changer for its time. Adding customisable characters, multiple paths, and a music-based battle system were just a few. You have to spend money to create a game of that scope, and Nintendo was not willing to do it. The only sniff youll get of this game is Mother 3 for the Game Boy Advance. Unfortunately, that game never made it stateside. There are fans who are willing to translate the game for Nintendo if they send it stateside, so well see what happens.
