10 Awesome Features In Truly Terrible Video Games

8. The Paint Hammer - Paper Mario: Color Splash

Star wars BATTLEFRONT
Nintendo

Although Origami King was certainly a step in the right direction for Paper Mario, we had to endure Color Splash first.

Now, this game is certainly a better move than the previous entry, Sticker Star, but not by much. Bland, uninteresting gameplay with lots of speed and padding problems, and awful battle mechanics, is there anything good?

Introducing the Paint Hammer, the one great new gameplay addition to this game. You can fill in colourless spots found all over the world with the paint hammer.

Upon filling in the spots, Mario receives objects such as coins. Paint is needed to be used by the hammer and comes in red, blue, and yellow varieties, which can be obtained by hitting objects with the hammer. The type of area in which the player fills determines the colour and the quantity of paint used. If the player gathers "hammer scraps" the maximum amount of paint they may bring can be increased.

Having the story be about returning color to the environment helps with its beautiful visuals, as the places you go to in the game are sapped of their color, which require Mario to splash about with paint from his hammer to bring life back to the world. It's a really neat idea.

But come on Nintendo, let's get a real Paper Mario game now, please.
