10 Awesome Games You Definitely Missed In 2024
2. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Ubisoft delivered a major shot to the arm of the stagnant Prince of Persia franchise with the recent The Lost Crown, which boldly adopted the style of a 2.5D side-scrolling Metroidvania.
Whether you're a fan of Metroidvanias or not, The Lost Crown splits the difference quite ingeniously, offering up enough quality-of-life features for less-skilled - or less patient - players, while still presenting enough challenge for the die-hards.
Between its drum-tight traversal mechanics, savage boss fights, and superbly designed locales, The Lost Crown ranks among the Prince of Persia series finest ever releases, doing something wholly unexpected with the franchise while still capturing enough of its classic essence.
Despite being one of the most surprisingly raved-about games of the year, however, The Lost Crown underperformed commercially, selling only around 1 million units throughout the year, and almost certainly guaranteeing that a sequel won't ever materialise.
For a game made with so much care and love for the franchise, it's a truly maddening outcome.
