If there's one thing people remember about the Shenmue series, it's all the weird mini-games Ryu was able to play while searching for the man who killed his father (that's the plot of the game, for those who were too busy blowing their allowance on arcade machines).

However, there is one particular mini-game that went under people's radar, even though it's the most interesting and intricate one in the series.

Duck racing. Yes, Shenmue II allowed you to participate in illegal street races involving ducks in adorable little bows.

The reason most people didn't know about this was because the mini-game was a secret that could only be unlocked after Ryu won two medals by participating in street fights. After that, you were able to catch your own duck and then pit it against other aspiring athletes of the waterfowl variety.

The sole concept of the mini-game was pretty wild, but what's even weirder is that it was also quite complex. The duck was controlled by the player, and it had its own stamina stat that could be increased with frequent racing.

And if this still isn't enough to convince you that duck racing is great, your duck's main rival was a penguin.
