10 Awesome Indie Games You Need To Play Immediately

7. Papo & Yo

This heartwarming indie game made this list for a few reasons, mainly because the reviews for this game very from a 9/10 all the way down to a 4/10 according to Metacritic. So who€™s right? Well, that€™s why you have to play it. Papo & Yo had a solid ride on the hype train before its release. Developer Minority used an adventurous art style that unfortunately had its share of technical flaws and dated graphics, something you don€™t see with most games powered by Unreal Engine 3.

The main draw to the game is the story. Quinco, the main character of the game, runs away from his home to escape the abuse of an alcoholic father. As you venture around the Brazilian village Quinco inhabits, the childlike mechanics of manipulating the village to progress through puzzles give you a sense of wonder and imagination that a lot of games do not offer. The puzzles and game play do become a bit tedious, but the game does not require a lot of hours to finish. If all else, play it for the soundtrack. Composed by Brian D€™Oliveria, the earthy, soothing tones of wind and string instruments complemented by subtle percussion rhythms are pleasantly addictive.
