10 Awesome Indie Games You Need To Play Immediately

4. Castle Crashers

oh yeah

Back when we all played arcade games, four player co-op games such as X-Men, The Simpsons, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ate a ton of our quarters. Castle Crashers, developed by The Behemoth, improved on the formula and made a splash on XBox Live in 2008. A splash so big that the game sold over 2.5 million copies on the 360 alone.

The appeal of Castle Crashers is its frantic, co-op geared, game play which provides tons of fun. Using similar mechanics from adventure games like Diablo, you€™ll defeat enemies, acquire money to buy items, and level up as you beat the levels. The games does not stray far away from a familiar formula, but the art direction is really what makes Castle Crashers stand out among an ocean of indie games.

While a 2D side scroller, the comical and elementary drawings of the characters and environments give Castle Crashers a great sense of depth. Background environments move depending on the setting and even show the appearance of the bosses as they approach the battle grounds.

Like the games of its genre, Castle Crashers features hordes of enemies and big boss battles. They€™re sure to frustrate you from time to time, but the amount of fun you€™ll have playing this game will make you a glutton for its punishment.
