2. Limbo

Limbo is a work of art. Dark, challenging, filled with tension, this 2D side scroller was released in July 2010 and is currently playable on five different system (360,PS3,Vita,PC, and Macs). It won tons of awards from the likes of the Game Developers Conference, Independent Games Festival, and Best of E3 awards from numerous gaming sites. It has sold over 1 million copies and made Denmark-based developer PlayDead a staple in the gaming industry.

The eerie black and white atmosphere of Limbo is supported by an ambient musical score composed by Martin Stig Andersen. The combination of the two has a tendency to leave a chilling, uneasy feeling that you begin to embrace. You have no choice but to succumb to Limbo€™s dark, mysterious world as its puzzles and challenges entice you to move forward.

Even with all of its accolades, Limbo fell under some criticism with journalists who gripped over the game€™s lack of a narrative and anticlimactic ending. The game is also very short (two to four hours) which rubbed some people the wrong way. Nevertheless, if you€™re one of the few people who has not played it, you owe it to yourself to give it a chance.
