10 Awesome Original Properties To Shake Up Gaming

7. Outlast

We love it when ex-employees of companies decide to branch out and try their own thing, and that's just what some of the former rosters of Ubisoft and Naughty Dog have done with Outlast, an extremely intriguing first-person survival horror game that clearly has its influences rooted in found footage cinema, specifically the marvellous films. The gameplay itself also draws inspiration from modern video game classics, with the emphasis on stealth suggesting a play-style not unlike the recent brilliance of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Also, there are reportedly going to be intense, parkour-esque chase sequences, as you run from the various monsters after you, so it won't be all stoic and quietly creepy, either. You play a journalist who is trapped inside an abandoned asylum, and you have only a night-vision camera to navigate around the dingy locales, giving the above image a very reminiscent feel indeed to anyone who's seen the aforementioned Spanish horror films. If this handheld gimmick can be implemented correctly, it could pave the way for more video games to take advantage of the success of it.
