10 Awesome Super Mario Fan Theories You Had No Idea Existed

3. Shy Guy Is The Product Of Genetic Experimentation

Mario has some weird friends. Besides his brother and his girlfriend, the vast majority of his closest companions tend to be either dinosaurs, little people with mushroom heads or oversized gorillas, who wear neckties. Strangely though, Mario€™s most incongruous buddies have to be the rather demented looking Shy Guys, the inexpressive mutes who wonders around aimlessly wearing featureless, white masks, their eyes as cavernous as the void.

Call me crazy, but somehow a cartoon version of Jason Voorhees just doesn€™t seem like an ideal fit for a friend, but then there€™s no accounting for taste.

Funnily enough, there€™s actually a theory to suggest that Shy Guy is the result of a failed genetic experiment. His mask is assumed to be a product of his shyness, but in Mario Power Tennis, Luigi responds with astonishment at the sight of Shy Guy€™s exposed face, as though he were hideously scarred or mutilated to an obscene extent.

Equally, seeing as how Magikoopas are transformed from Koopa Troopas, it wouldn€™t really be too unreasonable to assume that Shy Guys are the product of a botched transformation.
