It's not exactly common to see Sonic the Hedgehog slow down for long enough to take turns in a game of 'flick the enemy' with his colourful friends.

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood gives us just that, however, apparently taking a leaf out of Paper Mario's book to deliver a turn-based RPG style that the series had never dabbled in up until that point.

The game's alien race of giant crystalline golems were originally unnamed during development - deliberately so, for BioWare turned to the fans to offer their name suggestions in a pre-release competition.

In the end, the name that came out on top was 'Zoah', which is a reference to a town in the Panzer Dragoon series.

These creatures are quite a bit more otherworldly than most things the Sonic series had played around with at that time, so a name as cryptic and alien-sounding as Zoah fits them right down to the ground.

And, while the game wasn't for everyone, at least battling the Zoah was a refreshing change from constantly fighting Dr. Eggman's minions.
