No game is complete these days without a good helping of Easter eggs stashed in the faraway corners of the world. The Legend of Zelda series features some of video gaming's most famous Easter eggs ever, and this one in particular is pretty near the top of the list.

A Link to the Past's Chris Houlihan room is quite a well-known phenomenon now, but if you somehow happened to stumble upon one of its multiple entrances back in the day, you may well have assumed that this Chris Houlihan character was just one of the game's developers.

In fact, Mr. Houlihan was the winner of a contest in Nintendo Power magazine, and as a reward, was given his own secret room within the game.

Or so the story goes.

There are many who have their doubts about this explanation, as Nintendo Power never revealed the name of the contest winner, and the requirements for entry (taking a photo of an incredibly rare enemy from Final Fantasy) were difficult to complete within the time constraints.

Alas, we may never know the truth. All we know is that there was a contest, and then there was Chris Houlihan's secret room. Coincidence?
