10 Awesome Video Game Features That Came From Contest Winners
2. The Meat Cello - Dead Space 2
Nowadays, your reaction to EA announcing a contest would probably be, "Oh god, what are they up to now?" Thankfully, the Dead Space games (well, the first two, at least) were released before the company had much of the less-than-glowing reputation they've since cultivated.
And what this meant was that fans naturally jumped at the chance to make their mark on one of the creepiest and most immersive sci-fi horror series of all time.
The contest was named "Get Dismembered in Dead Space 2," and invited players to come up with their visions for the most spectacularly gruesome instakill moves the game could make use of. As the name suggests, not only would the winner's submission be used but their likeness would be created specially for an NPC destined to die in a very stabby way.
Dan Emmerson was this winner, and sure enough, a character resembling him is offed in a deliciously gory manner during an elevator scene in Chapter 2. His submission, however, is by far the more interesting part.
Dubbed "The meat cello," this move is a quick-time event in response to being jumped on by a Leaper. Isaac slams the beast to the floor, then stamps on its head and pulls its tail upwards (as if he were playing a cello). The force is enough to splatter the Leaper's head all over.
Unfortunately, it's highly doubtful we'll be seeing this move performed at this year's Proms.
