10 Awesome Video Game Villains That Died Too Early
9. Jack Baker - Resident Evil 7
Jack Baker is one of the most terrifying antagonists in the entire Resident Evil franchise - especially if you were brave enough to play Resident Evil 7 in VR.
The game's marketing quite shrewdly focused on the player being stalked by the Baker family's infected patriarch, resulting in a number of extremely memorable early boss fights - especially one involving a chainsaw.
And while his pervasive presence seemed to suggest he'd probably be the game's end-boss, Jack actually exits Resident Evil 7 a couple of hours before the end of the story, after he mutates into a gigantic abomination and player character Ethan kills him.
It's no coincidence that the game become a bit of a bore after this - the interminable tanker shoot 'em up sequence, the dull trek through the mines, and the thoroughly naff final boss fight against Eveline.
Though Jack's tragic backstory ultimately makes him more of a pawn than a black-and-white villain, and he technically does return in the dubiously canonical "End of Zoe" DLC, Resident Evil 7 basically falls apart the moment Ethan "destroys" him.
He should've stuck around for the long haul and been the final boss, clearly.
