10 Awesome Video Game Villains Who Deserve Their Own Title

6. Sephiroth - Final Fantasy VII

Greatest Final Fantasy villain? Quite possibly, but whatever the case he's certainly the most worthy of being the star of his own video game. That's because rather than looking like he'd popped out of his mother's womb with the immediate intention of killing her then taking over the world, he was actually a great hero before descending into madness. Infused with cells from the Godlike Jenova and taken away at birth, Sephiroth was raised as a soldier and soon became a war hero for his feats in the Wutai War, rising through the ranks and becoming an icon. A Final Fantasy starring Sephiroth could take place against the backdrop of this war, charting his heroic efforts and growing friendships with Angeal and Genesis. This trio could be the core characters and party members in the game, with others coming, going and dying throughout the war. Eventually, we know that Sephiroth gets pitted against his former (and only) friends, and it'd be fascinating to explore the emotional turmoil, conflicted feelings and loneliness he experienced at the time, even though fans of the series will already know much of the story surrounding him. It would explore how the seeds were sown for Sephiroth's downfall (or rise to villainous awesomeness, depending on how you look at it), offering insight into one of gaming's more misunderstood villains.
