10 Awesome Video Games That Should NEVER Get A Movie
5. Mass Effect
Despite the massive, rich lore that Mass Effect sports, a movie version could only be disappointing unless it explores every corner of the galaxy and invites the audience to choose what happens. While Black Mirror: Bandersnatch has proven a choose your own adventure movie is possible, we are still a long way off being able to replicate the sheer scale and freedom that Mass Effect possesses.
With Mass Effect, the players felt a personal connection to the characters and stories they created, and were able to choose exactly who to interact with and when. In a film adaptation, the emotional value and freedom of choice is entirely lost, and only a small percentage of the audience would be satisfied with the outcome.
There have been talks about a Mass Effect movie, but it's been in development hell for so long, and the franchise has lost a lot reputation since then, that it's safe to say the project won't be with us any time soon, if at all.
At this point, large scale space opera flicks should be left to Star Wars and Star Trek, and their massively devoted fans. Maybe we can get a good Mass Effect game again soon.
