10 Awesome Video Games That Should NEVER Get A Movie
2. Yakuza
The hugely popular Japanese franchise, Yakuza, has been gaining fans across the world in recent years, leading to big budget remakes of the first 2 games, as well spin-offs. The franchise follows the story of Kazuma Kiryu as he deals with nearly every emotion possible.
The massive jumps in tone that the Yakuza series makes from intense to hilarious only work so well because the players are in control of Kiryu's life, and what he does. This is also backed up by the masterful storytelling and action sequences that break up the pacing to a point where everything fits.
The time spent with Kiryu, not just across the franchise, but in a single game, is huge, as each game can take over 60 hours to complete, and by the end the audience have real emotional investment in the characters and story. None of the tonal shifts, or character connections would be possible in a movie, or even a TV show due to the lack of time available to grow an attachment to the series.
There is a movie based on the franchise that came out in 2007, but it's not great at all, and completely proves the point that this series should remain in video game form.
