10 Awesome Video Games With AWFUL Titles
7. Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!/Eevee!
A controversial one, maybe, as it’s a title which doesn’t seemed to have bothered many people, but that might just be the nostalgia/Switch hype/Pokémon GO popularity giving some rose coloured glasses, so let’s just dissect it for a moment.
Firstly, Pokémon games have always had one word names, followed by an extra descriptor for the remake. For example, Gold and Silver became HeartGold and SoulSilver, for heart of gold and... soul of silver? The point is, it was an easy system.
Let’s Go games though are essentially Yellow remakes, but since there’s two versions, that poses a problem. Pikachu Yellow is cute; Eevee Brownish Beige, less so.
Then there’s the obvious nod to Pokémon GO. It feels like a long winded stretch, and while there’s clearly some similarities, it has much more in common with a main series game (namely Yellow) than it does with PoGo. However, that’s not the worst of it.
The mobile app is frequently stylised with ‘GO’ in capitals, so some press for Let’s Go did the same. However, on the actual box it’s spelled Go.
The exclamation mark, too, jumps around, sometimes coming after Go and sometimes after Pikachu/Eevee.
Just a bit all over the place, this one.
