10 Awesome Video Games You Had No Idea Were Getting Movies

3. Doom: Annihilation

Mario And Luigi
Universal Pictures

Doom is that 2005 movie that most critics say was just a slog, bad, not worth watching...y'know except for that one part! Well Universal seems to feel pretty strongly that the upcoming 2019 reboot of the series, Doom Annihilation, will be just as good since it's going straight-to-DVD.

Starring Scottish actress Amy Manson the first trailer dropped back in June of 2018 resulting in id Software putting out a press release stating that they had nothing to do with the film. Isn't that just a glowing review? One of the major criticisms of the new film is that Universal has subverted the 'Doomguy' character by casting Manson in the role. Classic Doom fans claim the producer is trying to be too feminist-friendly by casting a woman as the main character. Such criticisms spawned the twitter topic #NotMyDoom, which trended worse than it did when people were upset by the 2015 Fantastic Four movie.

Some of the classier criticisms are that the film looks like an "E-Tier Starship Troopers", "a high-budget YouTube video", and the fact that the costumes look "generic as hell." The film comes out in Autumn 2019, though the official release date hasn't been formally announced. So far fan reception has been so negative that the trailer was taken down from Universal's official YouTube account. Not looking good, folks; not looking good.
