7. Devil May Cry 2 (PS2) - Wasted Talent
The original Devil May Cry was intended to be Resident Evil 4. Capcom felt that the project strayed too far from Resident Evil's roots and instead told the developers, Team Little Devils, led by Hideki Kamiya to develop an entirely new game universe. As a result, what would've been one great game morphed into two instant classics. This awesome decision making would not be repeated when the braintrust at Capcom decided who would make Devil May Cry 2. Kamiya and Team Little Devils were out. No discussion, never asked. Just out. What strategy and puzzle-solving fans had come to love in the original had been replaced with simple, generic hack and slash. The game's protagonist, Dante, was changed from a cocksure bad ass to being almost entirely mute. Most crucially though, what Kamiya had intended as his "challenge to those who played light, casual games" was changed to...a light, casual game. This in turn significantly affected the replay value. An additional disc in which you take control of Lucia (which pretty much plays out identically to Dante's disc), seems like a lame attempt by Capcom to increase the game's longevity.
