10 Badass Gaming Heroines That Could Have The Men For Breakfast

9. Faith

Mirror's Edge was a 2008 first-person game which used the movements of free running or parkour as its main unique selling point. It was a hit on release but the fan base has grown larger in following five years since. Main character, Faith, is a futuristic courier known as a Runner. She lives in an ultramodern, dystopian city and works for revolutionary groups who prefer to communicate by physical means rather than the persistently monitored telephone and online services run by the totalitarian government. To do her job she has to use walls, rooftops and other obstacles to make her way across the city undetected. If she is spotted she has no trouble dispatching security guards as she makes her escape. Faith is unique for being ordinary. The character model does not have the proportions of a Barbie doll or a porn star. She is thin and athletic but also very realistic. She is a rare example of a female character that looks like a real person rather than an art team's fantasy ideal. It could easily be argued that the game's success had little to do with the main character being a woman. The game's decision to use a first person perspective could mean the player forgets that they are playing as a female character because they only see arms and legs, but Faith has grown quite a following in her own right. Her iconic face tattoo is always well represented anywhere there is cosplay taking place and she proves that women in games can be action heroes without having to look like a glamour model.

I have one golden rule: There is no such thing as a guilty pleasure. Any song or film that makes you feel good doesn't need justifying.
