10 Most Badass Moments From The Metal Gear Series (So Far)

7. Return To Shadow Moses (Metal Gear Solid 4)

Every fan of the Metal Gear franchise would have had a huge grin, and maybe even a little lump in their throat when this mission presents itself. Towards the end of MGS4, Snake is tasked with returning to the island that started it all for many gamers (we know it wasn't the very first game, but MGS was the first Metal Gear experience for many back in '98 after making the leap to 3D). In a fantastically creative twist, Kojima fuels your nostalgia by not only having you return to Shadow Moses, but by also having the graphics revert back to those of the original, in all their pixellated glory. It was a fantastic move as it makes the player think about everything they have been through with Snake and it is actually quite emotional. It doesn't hurt that the entirety of MGS4 felt like Snake's final mission - from his ageing appearance through to the many callbacks to the previous games, this truly felt like the end of an era. By giving gamers the opportunity to relive those first few moments of a gaming classic, Kojima cemented the feeling of nostalgia prevalent throughout and reminded you that even though Snake is older here, he would still be capable of performing his heroics from MGS.
