5. The Return Of Raiden (Metal Gear Solid 4)

After the Raiden-reveal in MGS 2, Kojima had this ace up his sleeve; and it was a doozy. Everyone can pretty much agree that ninjas are cool. They would also most likely agree that robots are also up there. But a robot/ninja combination? That is unbelievably appealing. And so, all the bad memories of Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 2 were quickly erased after the moment he appears to single-handedly take down three Gekko's - which were basically smaller versions of Metal Gear Rex. In the scene in question, Snake and his companions are escaping said Gekko's when their vehicle crashes and they are left on the streets. All hope appears to be lost, until Raiden touches down revealing his new cyborg identity and proceeds to decimate the opposition in a flurry of acrobatics and swordplay that made many weep tears of joy. After the fury he invoked in a lot of gamers, it was going to take a lot to sway those people back in Raiden's favour. The fact that he manages to do so in under five minutes is one hell of an achievement and makes for a truly incredible moment.
