10 Beloved Video Game Mascots You Totally Forgot

1. Conker

Goemon character
Rare

This one hurts.

For those who don't know about Conker's Bad Fur Day, it was a 3D platformer released in 2001 for the Nintendo64 by industry Darling Rare. The game followed the adventures of the titular squirrel, swearing and killing his way through a cartoonish world to return his girlfriend Berri home after a night of heavy drinking.

Upon its launch, there was nothing quite like it. Kids would see a cute squirrel on the box art only for their parents to purchase the game for them to find an experience that was very much more for adults than children.

The sad thing about Conker is that since Microsoft purchased Rare back in 2002, we haven't had a sequel starring the character. There was a lacklustre remake released in 2005 titled Conker: Live & Reloaded that may have scratched the itch of a new title for some fans but ultimately lost the charm of the original. As of writing this the last time Conker was featured in any game was a brief appearance in Project Spark for the Xbox One and PC.

Conker is a character with a huge cult following and has had fans pleading desperately for a new title for nearly two decades. Hopefully, with the release of the Xbox Series X we might see him return in glorious 4K to cause some more chaos in the modern age.
