10 Beloved Video Game Mascots You Totally Forgot

9. Vectorman

Goemon character
Sega

In 1995 gamers must have been gobsmacked when they saw any footage of Vectorman being played on the Sega Megadrive/ Genesis. At the time the gaming landscape was full of flat 2D sprites but then along came Vectorman with his foe 3D animations. He was seen as Sega's answer to Nintendos Donkey Kong Country series.

The games were centred around a run and gun style gameplay with fast-paced action. Shooting at anything in your path or using one of his various transformations including a drill or a bomb to destroy enemies, all the while jamming out to that distinct Megadrive crunchy bass sound.

Vectorman only ever saw two titles, with a third one being in development before the developer, BlueSky Games' relationship with Sega ended and another title never made it to store shelves. However, his games always make it onto the various Megadrive collections that are released, which goes to show how much of a cult following the character has garnered over the years.
