10 Beloved Video Game Moments That Would Be Too Offensive In 2017

2. GTA III's 'Kill The Prostitute To Get Your Money Back'

At the time: Rockstar really were gaming's 'naughty boys' for the majority of the 2000s, commanding the spotlight back when GTA went 3D.

Granted, in 2001, GTA III caused possibly the biggest uproar since DOOM, completely shaking the foundations of the industry in a way that we'd never fully come back from (in the best way possible, see every open-world game that emerged thereafter). See, although Rockstar were being overtly boundary-pushing in many respects, they were also delivering on some great gameplay mechanics, and a bold new vision on how to populate a game world - something the likes of Postal was nowhere near.

Now: Like Moral Kombat before it, the only reason people and the media overall are 'okay' with GTA, is because they've already put the franchise through the wringer over time. You could feel GTA V trying to cause controversy with its torture scenes and Trevor mutilating innocent people in cutscenes, but the world just didn't care anymore.

That said, hit the reset button and drop GTA III fresh out the oven, and you'd get all the outrage, the horror of sleeping with an (always female) prostitute i.e. assuming the otherwise blank slate protagonist is straight, and the fact the only prominent female on the entire first island is someone who wants to go shopping and clubbing.

Way to be straight white males, Rockstar.
