10 Best Boss Battles In Final Fantasy History - Ranked

9. Gilgamesh – Final Fantasy XII

Gilgamesh is about as fickle as they come, constantly switching back and forth between enemy and ally. He first appeared in FFV as the comical right-hand man to antagonist Exdeath.

Since then he has seen multiple series entries as a summon, and will be featuring in FFXV's upcoming Episode Gladiolus DLC. However, our battle with him in FFXII wasn't just our finest encounter with him, but one of the best boss battles in the series.

Alongside his loyal sidekick Enkidu, with the theme music being a rehashed version from FFV, it is a nostalgic battle full of the funny quips that make Gilgamesh so enjoyable.

What's more, Gilgamesh attacks you using knockoff versions of legendary swords from the series, including Cloud's Buster Sword, Squall's gun blade, and Tidus' Brotherhood. He also has a version of Odin's Zantetsuken, paying homage to when he picked it up after Seifer killed the Norse god in FFVIII.

The battle isn't one of the toughest or the most emotional by any means, but it is still a nostalgic challenge, made all the more fun by Gilgamesh's wisecracks.

For that reason, it is definitely one of the most enjoyable!
