10 Best Boss Battles In Final Fantasy History - Ranked
8. Bizarro/Safer Sephiroth – Final Fantasy VII
Before the FFVII fanboys lynch me for putting this fight so high in the list, I love FFVII and I love Sephiroth as a villain.
I think the criticism he gets – simply because so many people enjoy him – is unfair. His story was compelling and tragic and he inspired genuine awe and terror.
Unfortunately, it is his character, the emotional investment we feel in culminating the story of both the planet and Cloud's personal trial, alongside the epic theme music, that make this boss battle so memorable.
The battle itself, while visually impressive, was just too predictable.
That said, the battle system itself was interesting and somewhat revolutionary.
Firstly, Sephiroth would scale his strength based on the strength of the party, and depending on how quickly you defeated Jenova-Synthesis, the party would fight Sephiroth as either 1, 2 or 3 different groups for you to interchange between. This added an extra element of strategy, and served to give Sephiroth a greater sense of size and power.
While he could be defeated with minimal effort by casting Knights of the Round or Bahamut-Zero a few times, it was a worthy battle if you restricted yourself to physical and magical attacks - made all the more memorable with the now-famous One Winged Angel score.
